246st.MARKET, a POPUP store with the theme of the world's environment, won the Japan Space Design Award 2021 and the newly established "Sustainable Space Award" this term.
- Developing fixtures that can be used repeatedly and can be folded compactly and moved -
World Group's World Space Solutions Co., Ltd. won the Japan Kukan Design Award 2021 "Sustainable Space Award" for the pop-up store "246st.MARKET" that World has been working on since 2019. This award is for works that "contribute to the realization of a better and sustainable future for people," and is a new award for this term. * What is the Japan Space Design Award: The only and largest space design award in Japan, born in 2019, sponsored by the Japan Commercial Environmental Design Association and the Japan Space Design Association.
In recent years, the number of "pop-up events" has increased, and fixtures after use are often discarded, and the world has regarded the burden on the environment as a "problem". Therefore, we asked architect Masaru Momoeda to design fixtures with the keywords of "reusable" and "portable" from the perspective of reducing the environmental burden, and a sustainable mechanism that does not produce wasteful scraps in the production process.
In the production process, we combine "dimensions" with few scraps and five angles (30/45/60/90/120) that create a variety of shapes to wrap the product. The simple dimensions and these 5 angles change the expression, and the structure is made to stand on its own by inserting a shelf, so we finished it without using metal as much as possible. In addition, by combining multiple shapes and heights, the sales floor can be freely configured to create communication with visitors while wrapping the entire space in a sustainable space.
